Remote Control of Construction Machinery Made Clear and User-Friendly
K-DIVE® is a telework system developed by Leica Geosystems and KOBELCO Construction Machinery for the remote control of construction machinery. Zoom Films’ task was to translate this advanced solution into a product video that both industry professionals and a broader audience could quickly understand.
The film combines live-action footage, selected locations, green screen, visual effects, and 3D animation. This makes it possible to show the operator, the machines, and the digital connections that tie the system together—without losing the human element of the story.
On-location filming, green screen, and production
The physical locations were intended to lend the film credibility and cinematic weight. The industrial setting reinforces the narrative about construction equipment, while the urban scenes bring people and the flexible workplace closer to the viewer.
The camera, lighting, and set design were planned to work in conjunction with the subsequent compositing. The green screen provided the freedom to place the operator in the appropriate digital environment and create scenes that could not be filmed all at once at a single physical location.
The result is a cohesive visual world where authentic performances and realistic environments blend with the digital layers that define K-DIVE®.
Live-action and 3D animation in the same promotional video
Live-action creates a sense of presence: The viewer encounters the camera operator and understands the work environment. But the camera alone cannot show network connections, system integration, and the communication between the control station and the machine.
The 3D animation visualizes the invisible technical layers and guides the viewer through the system. By integrating the animation into the filmed scenes, the explanation becomes part of the narrative rather than a separate technical segment.
This combination makes the product video suitable for launches, presentations, trade shows, sales, and digital marketing—both when the technology needs to be explained and when the vision needs to be conveyed.
Close collaboration with Leica Geosystems and KOBELCO
The technical precision resulted from close collaboration with Leica Geosystems and KOBELCO. Their specialists contributed their product and system expertise, while Zoom Film translated that into a simple visual narrative.
The storyboard and ongoing collaboration ensured a balance between the necessary technical details and a narrative that keeps the viewer engaged. Each frame was designed to both inform and drive the story forward.
The video therefore not only demonstrates how K-DIVE® works, but also highlights its value: greater flexibility, distance between the operator and the work area, and new possibilities for the construction site of the future.
